I use diagonal sections for a few main reasons. The first is to control the shape horizontally and vertically at the same time. It also allows me to build my graduated shape easily with repetitive movements and less moving my body around which could cause inconsistency. Finally to encourage the movement and flow of the hair in a certain direction (either forwards or backwards). | Alex Walker
