Announced today, Tim Cook is stepping down as Apple CEO, making way for the head of its hardware engineering team, John Ternus. Cook has been the head of Apple for 15 years already, taking over for Steve Jobs back in 2011.

Apple announced that John Ternus, an affable mechanical engineer who rose through the ranks of the company’s hardware division, will be its next chief executive, succeeding Tim Cook.

Cook described Ternus as a "visionary" executive with "the mind of an engineer, the soul of an innovator and the heart to lead with integrity and honour".
