It’s a First Alert Day in eastern Iowa as the threat for severe weather is with us. A Tornado Watch is in effect for much of the TV9 viewing area until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening. A few counties are also included in a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.
Here’s what the First Alert Weather Team said you can expect for the First Alert Weather forecast: Warming trend kicks into high gear.
Isolated showers and storms on Wednesday
A First Alert Weather Day remains in place for this evening and tonight as severe thunderstorms are expected. These storms have the potential to bring all forms of severe weather. More details are further below.
A strong and isolated severe thunderstorm will be possible in the afternoon and evening hours.
After a warm and humid Tuesday, expect more of the same through Saturday afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the 80s with heat indices pushing well into the 80s as humidity remains elevated. But don’t put away your rain gear just yet — a cold front approaching from the northwest could bring changes by the weekend.
There’s a chance a few showers try to sneak in from the northwest and push east north of I-20. The better chance is across northern areas, with much of that activity weakening/dissipating as it moves farther south and east.
A “Yellow Alert” signals the need for increased awareness. This is when weather conditions may begin to have a more noticeable impact. During this time of year, that could include stronger thunderstorms or the potential for damaging winds. When a yellow alert is issued, we encourage you to stay informed and check back for forecast updates.
